The Red Sea

Genesis 13:11 & 19:23-25 - “So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other. Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in among the cities of the valley and moved as far as Sodom. Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.” “The sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zoar. Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven. And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.”

Today the Dead Sea is a sulfurous, salty body of water with a salt content of 33%. Nothing lives in this unique body of water and one may wonder how it got here. Well, the Bible tells us that at one time it was a well-watered, and lush plain - so much so that Lot chose it as his place to live. The problem is that the people living there were wicked and sinful.

This of course led to God destroying the place and it’s inhabitants in a way that had led to what we call the Dead Sea. And forever, and all through out the Bible, Sodom becomes an example for the judgement of God against sin. As sobering as it is on this Monday morning, God will ultimately destroy everything and everyone contaminated by sin. There is only one known cure. Jesus. By faith in his grace and sacrifice we are free from judgement. If your life feels as dead as the Dead Sea, turn to him today.
