Luke 4:40-41 - “Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. And demons also came out of many, crying, ‘you are the son of God!’ But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.”
These verses for today took place in the town of Capernaum - the home town of the Messiah, Jesus and the place where more miracles are recorded than any other place in the Bible. Three quick lessons about this fishing town on the north shore of Galilee.
1). Where Jesus is, healing takes place. The centurion’s servant, the women with 12 years of bleeding, Jairus daughter who had died, the demon possessed man, and Simon Peter’s mother-in-law are just a few of the healings that took place in this town
2). Don’t forget or take for granted his healing power in your life. In the end, this “hometown” of Jesus was cursed (see Matthew 11:23) because they didn’t repent. Jesus says that if Sodom had seen his miracles they would have repented!
3). Leave everything behind to follow Jesus. On the beach of this same town, Jesus met Simon Peter and after teaching brought a great catch of fish. After this miracle, Peter told Jesus to depart from him because he was unworthy, but instead, Jesus called him to follow. And Peter left it all to follow him.
Today invite Jesus to heal. Today thank him and follow because of what he’s done. Today, leave something behind to follow.
