Do You Bring Good News?

Romans 10:14-15 - “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’”

There are so many sermons in this famous passage about sermons, but we’ll limit it to a few thought for today. First, the apostle states the obvious. People can’t call on Jesus without faith in him and they won’t believe in Jesus unless they hear about him. Did you know, there are people around you today who would call on and believe in Jesus, if only they heard the good news.

This is where preachers come in. Preachers declare the good news. Not just called and gifted preachers to share the word of God in our churches on Sundays. The word preaching here, is the Greek word “Kerusso” and literally means to be a herald or proclaimer of good news. In this sense all of us who follow Jesus are preachers.

This is the ancient image of “the beautiful feet” of a messenger running long distances to share good news from the king, or war, or any other occasion. The feet were not literally beautiful (likely bruised, battered, and maybe bleeding from running miles in sandals), but beautiful because they belong to a messenger of good news. Will you have beautiful feet today? Someone is ready to believe if only they could hear it.
