The Phrase Found In The Bible Over 300 Times

Acts 13:44-49 - “The next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord… And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. And the word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region.”

Three times in this revival scene from Pisidian Antioch we find the phrase “the word of the Lord.” In fact, this exact phrase is found over 300 times in the Bible. The word of the Lord is what created everything. It is powerful. It is true. And it is life changing. We have this word written (the Bible) and we follow the Living Word - Jesus.

And this word preached is life changing. As in our verses above. The word of the Lord is still what people really want to hear. This reminds me that when we gather on Sundays the word of the Lord is what people gather for…not cute stories or self-help advice, but the word of the Lord.

The word of the Lord is also good news. This is why the non-Jewish people who heard it rejoiced. Basically stated, through faith in Jesus everyone is destined for eternal life. This word is still a light to the ends of the earth.

Finally, the word of the Lord spreads. This has been true for the last 2,000 years. There are those who prognosticate that the church and the word we preach is dying. But that is far from the truth. The word of God, because of it’s living and breathing nature can not and will not be stopped. It’s still spreading worldwide this very day.
