Know God

Hosea 6:1-3 - “Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”

This prophecy from Hosea is a call for the people of God to return to the Lord. For the Old Testament people of God this means from sinning by following idols and being “torn” and “struck down” as a result of it. Sin always leads to pain and eventually death!

But there is a God who heals and binds up our wounds and causes us to live. Did you notice the allusion to Jesus’ resurrection as the source of our healing? “One the third day, he will raise us up” is the death to life thread throughout the entire bible, accomplished in Christ.

So, we can know the Lord. In fact, we are encouraged to “press on” a Hebrew word that means “to run after.” That’s the encouragement today: instead of pursuing all the stuff of this world and this life - run after God. He has healed us AND we can count on him like the sun coming up and the rain watering the earth. Pursue this God today!
