Is Peace Possible?

Isaiah 26:1-4 - “In that day this song shall be sung in the land of Judah: ‘We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks. Open the gates, that the righteous nation of faith may enter in. You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. L Trust in the Lord forever, the the Lord God is an everlasting rock.’”

In these verses the prophet Isaiah predicts a future (after the destruction and captivity) when the people of God would find place and safety within the walls and gates of Jerusalem. A place of peace. Their hope of peace is the same for us. How will we find belonging and safety in this Monday?

1) God will keep in peace those whose minds are stayed on him. We become fearful, uneasy, unsafe when we focus on all the things of this world instead of Jesus: the upcoming test, the family strife, the bills due, the meetings to prepare for, the full schedule, etc…. These often lead to the opposite of peace. Today, keep your mind on Jesus because he is not going to change. He is always there, which leads to the second way to find peace in this day.

2) Trust in the Lord forever. The reason I focus on him is that He (alone) can be trusted. Today, God is going to keep his promises. God will be with me and strengthen me in the hard stuff. God will redeem all of it as he has redeemed me. God won’t stop loving me today. This kind of trust brings peace.

Perfect peace today? Mind stayed on Him. Trust in Him.
