I Peter 2:8 - “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.”
This short verse for the day calls believers to five Christian attitudes and actions. It appears in the context of Peter’s instructions for husbands and wives and continues giving us insight into how we Christians (“all of you” - not just husbands and wives) should get along with one another.
They are simple concepts, harder to live. So pray for Holy Spirit strength to live this way today:
1) Help me have unity of mind with other believers. Although I may think differently about any number of things, may my mind be unified in focus on Christ and his kingdom.
2) Help me have sympathy. Make me aware of and help me to relate to the path that others have taken. Help me see the world through their eyes and sympathize with them.
3) Help me love others like family today. The church is the family of God and so help me be kind, speak graciously, and serve my Christian brothers and sisters in love today.
4) Help me have a tender heart. Give me compassion for those who are hurting. Help me care about the injustice and pain all around me today.
5) Help me have a humble mind. May I think less of myself today and more of others. Help me consciously place others and their needs above mine.
