Psalm 10:11-15 - “He says in his heart, ‘God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.’ Arise, O Lord; O God, life up your hand; forget not the afflicted. Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, ‘You will not call to account’? But you do see, for you notice mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none.”
One of the most discouraging thing in the Christian life can be the success of wicked people. We sometimes wonder why sincerely evil people thrive in business. Why do those who deny God become popular? Why does evil and the people who commit evil seem to be invincible? To make things worse, they deny God thinking, “he doesn’t see.”
In fact, God does see. It may feel like corruption, abuse, hatred, oppression, and sin is being overlooked in this fallen world. But God sees it all. God notes all mischief and vexation. No one who does evil is “getting away with it.” Because not only does he see it all, he will eventually bring justice to it all.
It may seem strange for a holy song to include the words, “break the arm of the wicked.” But it is an appeal for God to bring justice, and it is what God will do someday. In the meantime, whatever don’t let the injustice you are seeing and/or experiencing overwhelm you today. A day is coming when God will make it right and wickedness will be no more.
